What changes

Most formulators stumble right at the setup, and they don't realise it until much later.

Where most people are

Informal testing, vague results

A jar on the shelf, checked now and then. Nothing written down properly, no baseline to compare against, no clear protocol for what counts as a pass or a fail.

It's understandable. Stability testing isn't usually taught alongside formulation, and the protocols that do exist online are often pulled together from supplier blogs that don't quite agree with each other.

  • No documented baseline
  • No structured protocol
  • No paperwork to share with retailers or manufacturers
Where this training takes you

A real test, with the paperwork done correctly

By the end of next week, you've run a full freeze-thaw study on a real formulation. The baseline is documented. The cycles are tracked. The result is interpreted using the criteria you'll learn inside the training.

It's the same approach used in professional R&D, scaled down to fit a home or small-batch setup, with the equipment you already have.

  • A clean baseline you can compare against
  • The S.T.A.R.T. framework, applied step by step
  • Records you can show a manufacturer or retailer
If you're here

You're probably one of three formulators.

In ten years of teaching, I've seen the same three situations come up again and again. They each look slightly different on the surface, but underneath, the question is the same: how do I actually start running stability tests properly?

01 You've never run a formal stability test, and the more you read about it, the more confusing it gets. One source says one thing, the next source says something different, and nothing tells you what actually applies to your product. So you've put it off, but still fully aware it's something you should be doing.
02 You've been leaving jars on a shelf and checking them now and then. It's a start, but you know it isn't really stability testing. Your safety assessor asked about shelf life last month. You weren't sure what to send them.
03 You found a stability protocol online, followed it as best you could, and ended up with a page of numbers you don't quite know how to read. You did run some tests but you're still not sure if your formulation passed.

If any of that sounds familiar, you're in exactly the right place.

I'm Timi. I've been teaching cosmetic formulation since 2015, and stability testing is the part of the work I think about the most.

I've been working in R&D at a luxury cosmetics brand for many years. Stability testing is the part of the job that underpins everything. Without it, no formulation makes it out of the lab.

Why is stability testing so important? It's very simple: it's the part of formulation that decides whether your product is actually safe to sell, BUT it's the part that almost nobody teaches well. Most home and small-batch formulators learn formulation from recipes and YouTube videos, then hit a wall the moment someone serious asks how the product was tested.

I built this training because I want to help you with it. Talented formulators with gorgeous products but with no working validation system. You know it matters, right? But perhaps you don't know where to begin. Many of the protocols online don't fit, professional courses cost thousands and assumes lab access.

So I took the framework I use in my own R&D work, scaled it down to a home or small-batch setup, and built a training that walks you through one full test from baseline to interpretation. That's the Stability Testing Starter System. This is how I would help someone new to stability studies get started with testing.

What's inside

Video training and two working documents.

One
The training

A 45-minute walkthrough of the S.T.A.R.T. Stability Protocol

The same five-stage framework I use for every stability study, taught one stage at a time, then applied to a complete freeze-thaw test from baseline to interpretation. You'll know what to set up, what to measure, what to look for at each cycle, and how to read the result when it's done. Watch immediately, watch as many times as you need, no expiry on access.

Reference PDF

Stability Testing Recommendations by product type

A reference covering the nine main stability tests and which ones apply to which product categories. Cream, serum, mask, shampoo, body butter, lip balm, sunscreen, hair styling product, perfume. Each one mapped to its recommended test protocol, so you stop running tests that don't apply to what you're formulating.

Three
Working document

Freeze-Thaw Setup & Tracking Sheet

A pre-built document that walks you through the freeze-thaw test from baseline to final result. Setup checklist, baseline measurements page, six cycle observation pages, full final measurement comparison, and a built-in interpretation guide. Designed to be used over and over, on every formulation you ever test.

Questions

A few things people often ask first.

I've never run a stability test before. Will I be lost?
+
This training is built for exactly that. The S.T.A.R.T. framework is taught from scratch, no prior stability experience assumed. The freeze-thaw walkthrough takes you through every step, including what each measurement means and what to do if something looks off. If you've formulated before, you'll have all the background you need.
Do I need a lab freezer or special equipment?
+
No. The whole reason I picked freeze-thaw as the test to walk through is that it works with the equipment most people already have. A standard home freezer, your bench, the formulation tools you already use. Inside the training I walk through how to handle the temperature difference between a home freezer and a lab freezer, and the realistic options for both.
What product types does this actually cover?
+
The Recommendations PDF covers the nine main stability tests across cream, serum, mask, shampoo, body butter, lip balm, sunscreen, hair styling product, and perfume. The freeze-thaw walkthrough applies to emulsions, surfactant systems, and most semi-solid products. Anhydrous balms, pure oils, and perfumes don't need freeze-thaw as a priority, and the training tells you why.
How is this different from your full course?
+
This Starter System covers one complete test (freeze-thaw) and gives you the framework that applies to every other test. My full course, Keep It Together, covers every test type, every product category, the interpretation work across multiple tests, the formal Product Specification Sheets, the stability certificate, and the regulatory paperwork. This Starter System is the entry point. If you decide later you want the full programme, the work you've already done carries over.
What if I buy it and decide it's not for me?
+
Reply to the delivery email and I'll refund you. I'd rather you have your $37 back than feel stuck with something that doesn't fit. Honest fit matters more than a sale to me.
