Who we are

Hello, I'm Timi.

My vision

To raise the standard of independent cosmetic formulation globally, creating a community of knowledgeable, confident formulators who make safer, better, and more innovative products.

My mission

I created Formulator Hub because I believe great formulation education shouldn't be out of reach. Whether you're a hobbyist or an aspiring professional, you deserve guidance built on real science and real experience.

"A formula isn't a recipe. A recipe tells you what to do. A formula tells you what's happening."

I've come a long way

My story

My name is Timi. I'm a cosmetic chemist, a teacher, and the founder of Formulator Hub, where I teach people how to formulate natural skincare and haircare products.

I was a classroom teacher for many years before I ever went near cosmetic science. I taught English as a foreign language, and I ran my own language school in London. I loved the actual teaching, being in the room, watching something click, adjusting how I explained things based on what I could see in people's faces. But I burnt out. When you're teaching 12-hour days and running a school at the same time, the thing you love about it gets buried under everything else.

Then formulation came along, and I realised I had a real knack for it. I was offered a position as head of education at a formulation school, where I designed the curriculum and created sample formulations to support students, drawing on both my teaching background and my growing knowledge of cosmetic science. I loved it, though I'll be honest, it was a very different kind of teaching. Online, you don't see faces. You can't read the room, pick up when someone's lost, or change direction because you can feel the energy dropping. It took me a while to get the hang of that. But teaching is teaching, in the end. You're helping someone understand something, one way or another.

When I had the chance to train further, I took it. I left that role and moved into product development, and I now work as a cosmetic chemist at a luxury brand. I work with raw materials, stability, textures, and real formulation problems every day, and that experience has changed how I teach. Knowing the science well and having worked through real product development challenges means I'm far more confident when students come to me with questions. I know the background. I know why things behave the way they do.

But I couldn't let go of the teaching.

I didn't want to stop helping people, especially with what I'd learned. I could see so many curious, capable people who wanted to go further with formulation but didn't have access to proper, structured education that would actually get them there. So I kept Formulator Hub running alongside my industry work, because I wanted to help people move beyond simple kitchen formulations into professional-level work where they genuinely understand what they're doing and why.

That's what Formulator Hub is built around. I teach the science behind formulation decisions. Why you're using an ingredient, what its job is in the formula, what is the structure of a formula, what happens if you step outside the parameters and how everything fits together as a system. The goal is that you stop needing recipes because you understand what's actually happening in the formula.

Today, I teach formulators from all over the world. Some are hobby formulators, some want to start a small brand, and some already sell products but want to understand their formulas better. I've been working with AI for several years now, and Formulator Hub is the first formulation school to build AI into how students learn and work with their formulas. Over the years, I've also built tools to help with more complex decisions around preservation, ingredient selection, and troubleshooting, because I could see how much time, money, and confidence people lose when a product fails and they don't know why.

My goal has always been straightforward.

I want you to understand your formula.

I want you to be able to look at it and know what each ingredient is doing.

I want you to be able to change it on purpose, and I want you to feel confident that what you're making is safe, stable, and well-designed.

My qualifications:

Not sure what's in a product?

Decode any cosmetic ingredient list in minutes with Lexie, the Cosmetic Label Decoder.

Lexie is a free AI assistant I trained to walk you through INCI lists the way a formulator would.

She'll tell you what each ingredient is, what it's doing in the formula, and how it fits with everything else on the list.

It's a good place to start if you're new to reading labels, and a useful reference if you're already formulating.

To chat with Lexie, you will need a ChatGPT account (a free account works).
